SSPressing meeting (Gijón, June 2017)

The third meeting of the SSPressing project (http://sspressing.upv.es) was held on 26 and 27 June 2017 in Gijón. The project involves the University of Jaén, the University of Oviedo, the University of Alcalá, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Universitat Politècnica de València.

The meeting was held at the Labor University of Gijón, which is located in Gijón (Asturias, Spain). Built between 1946 and 1956, it is the most important architectural work of the 20th century in Asturias. It is, with its 270 000 m², the largest building in Spain. During two days, each of the groups participating in the project presented its main advances. The meeting started with the presentation of the activities of the group of the Universitat Politècnica de València, by Maria de Diego. Then, Natalia Blasco and Román Belda conducted the technical talk “Network of nodes for distributed process. Aspects of hardware and software “.

Later, Pedro Vera presented the activities of the group of Jaén and conducted a technical talk entitled: “Complex NMF models”.

Next, Gema Piñero presented the technical talk: “Optimization algorithms for the creation of personal audio areas”.

The second day started with the presentation of the activities of the Alcalá group by Roberto Gil.

Álvaro Suárez, from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, presented the activities of his group. Afterwards, José Ranilla presented the activities carried out by the Gijón group.

Finally, two technical talks were held. The first by Roberto Gil, titled “Energy-Efficient Acoustic Violence-Detection”. The second was conducted by Luciano Sánchez on machine learning and neural networks.

The meeting of the project was very positive, and also allowed to know some of the most important corners of Gijón and to taste the typical Asturian food, such as the cachopo, accompanied by cider.
