4th SSPressing meeting (Alcalá de Henares, February 2018)

The fourth meeting of the SSPressing Project was held last 8th and 9th of February at the University of Alcalá. That is a public university located in Alcalá de Henares, a city 35 km (22 miles) northeast of Madrid and also the third-largest city of the region.  The University of Alcalá is especially renowned in the Spanish-speaking world for its annual presentation of the highly prestigious Cervantes Prize.

The first day began with a general introduction to the current status of the project by Maria de Diego (UPV). Afterwards, each of the participant groups presented an overview of the activities undertaken since the last project meeting.

In addition to the presentation of the progress reports, six technical talks were also programmed, which enabled the participants to share research experiences reached during the development of the project. The talks covered the following topics:

  • “Acoustic noise masking system”, by Juan Estreder from the Universitat Politècnica de València.
  • “Acoustic location in wireless sensor networks”, presented by Roberto Gil from the University of Alcalá.
  • “Separation of cardiopulmonary audio”, presented by Francisco J. Cañadas from the University of Jaén.
  • “Tempo-based musical analysis”, presented by Pedro Vera from the University of Jaén.
  • “A brief introduction to quantum communication”,  by Elias Fernández–Combarro from the University of Oviedo.
  • “Design and implementation of an audio captive portal for Internet access through Wi-Fi”, presented by Álvaro Suarez from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
